Calgary teenager Alexandra Pretorius is serving notice to the rest of the ski jumping world.
The 16-year-old, who trains at WinSport, had jumps of 92.5 and 96.5 metres on Wednesday to win a summer FIS Grand Prix ski jumping event in Courchevel, France.
“I showed a really good jump in the training and my timing at the takeoff is very good,” Pretorius said after the event.
Pretorius scored 221.9 points, with Austria’s Daniela Iraschko finishing second with 220.7 points. Pretorius will wear the gold bib as the leader of the Summer Grand Prix, which moves to Hinterzarten, Germany, for an event on Friday.
“This is an amazing experience. I’m still in some serious shock,” Pretorius told the Calgary Herald. “I’m happy to be here and happy with what is happening. I knew my jumping was improving every day, but to win today was something special.”
